Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing

Dr. McDevitt applying fraxel laser

Fine lines, wrinkles, age spot and scars can impact how you feel about your appearance. Numerous options are directed at treating these signs of aging – one of the safest and most effective ways to tackle these issues is with Fraxel laser skin resurfacing. Skin resurfacing using lasers has been around for decades, but not all lasers accomplish the same goals. A game changing technology for skin resurfacing was introduced when the laser no longer needed to remove the superficial skin layer (non-ablative) and also could stimulate deep skin collagen activation by treating through thousands of tiny columns of treatment zones (fractionated). Fraxel utilizes this non-ablative, fractionated technology to revitalize aging skin and awaken the youthful qualities of your skin providing a younger, tighter, and more vibrant skin surface.

Fraxel laser skin resurfacing treatments is best utilized for the skin with signs of aging; however, it can also be used to treat scars and tighten skin of any age.   Some of the best indications for Fraxel laser skin resurfacing are:

  • Diminishing age/sun spots (solar lentigo) or skin discoloration
  • Skin tightening
  • Scar reduction
  • Wrinkle reduction
  • Sun damage restoration

Fraxel laser skin resurfacing can be performed to the full face and neck or for specific areas of concern such as the lower eyelids, cheeks, hands, or abdomen. Depending on the area involved, you may get the best results with a series of three or four treatments spaced out by 3-4 weeks per treatment.

Dr. McDevitt and Dr. Sweeney will evaluate you to see if you are a candidate for treatment and explain the results that may be achieved. The treatment is performed in our office surgical suite. We utilize strong topical anesthetics to provide the most comfortable experience possible. Following laser skin resurfacing, recovery is similar to that of a sunburn. For maximal results, we will coach you through the application of healing topical medications that optimize the results of the laser treatment.

Dr. McDevitt or Dr. Sweeney will recommend the optimal number of sessions to be performed based on the results you are looking for. For many goals, patients can expect between 2-4 treatments, however, everyone and every skin type is different. Treatment times and frequency will be specifically tailored to you.

Yes, Fraxel laser skin resurfacing can be used in combination with others treatments. Skin resurfacing can nicely accompany lower lid blepharoplasty, cheek lift, brow lift, Botox, filler, and other treatments.

Most patients will have a sunburnt appearance after Fraxel lasting approximately 3-6 days. This may cause some irritation, burning sensation, sensitivity to sun if Fraxel is performed without aftercare ointments and skincare. With appropriate aftercare, most of our patients have little to no discomfort but just need an excuse for a few days for looking like they forgot their sunscreen!

The cost depends on the areas involved and how many treatments needed. Our doctors will discuss your areas of concern and tailor a treatment plan that fits your goals and your budget.
